What do you need to do to start successful SMART CARD project?

Before writing or calling Almex SmartCard Solutions you have to do your homework and have a plan. Strange as it sounds, many potential customers contact us without having a clear idea what they want smart cards to do for them. It doesn't have to be Power Point presentation or flow chart but rather transactions aligned in logical order describing real life situation as you want them to develop.

Description of project you want to undertake should have answers (but not limited to) to the following questions:

• How many SC (Smart Card) issuing stations you need?
• How many processing stations you plan to have?
• How many Smart cards do you want to start with?
• How many cards realistically do you expect to have after full deployment?
• Do you require PC SC processing station, portable SC terminals or POS terminals?
• Could be combination of everything, really depends on project.
• What exactly do you envision to be written into the cards?
• Will there be a monetary value written in the card?
• What exactly cards suppose to do for you?
• Do you need cards to be printed or you just need white, blank ones?
• Can you estimate data size in kB?
• Is there connectivity to some kind of central PC required?
• Is there existing data base or some kind of processing already present?
• What kind of platform is it working on?
• What kind of data base you need integration to?
• Do you need new data base to be provided with software solution?
• Where will card readers be used, office, industrial, portable, mobile ... environment?
• What kind of connectivity is needed: direct (USB, RS232), phone line, Ethernet?

• Contact Smart cards are good for 95% of the applications but maybe you need contactless, or dual interface cards (contact and contactless access to same chip in one card)?
