PROBLEM

Physical Therapy
facility has thousands of patients using facility on specific schedule.
Management of all those patients together with keeping track of
purchased and spent treatments is serious problem
THE PLAN
Lott
Physical Therapy chose our smart card system to manage customer
attendance and usage of facilities. Our software talks to their data
base where customer's payments and allowed usages (visits) are
recorded. Also they went for complete package with external access door
control.
THE
SMART CARD SOLUTION
Every
patient gets smart
card printed with Lott logo and contact information. Same card serves
as secure crednetial to open the door using a card system and also to
record and count visits (treatments) allowed.
EXTENDED
HOURS - At front door customers use smart
card with outdoor smart card reader. Smart card gets checked by PC
running SC Manager software. If customer is allowed in door
automatically unlocks. That system works during extended hours of
operation (early morning, later evening). Overnight door stays locked.
REGULAR
HOURS - During regular hours front door is
unlocked. Customer use smart card reader at front desk to log in. SC
Manager checks to identify users and customer's picture pops up on the
screen. Also there is warning if customer's dues are not paid. Operator
can handle an unlimited number of cards. Also, we are printing cards
with custom logo and messages as shown on the left.
Cards
used are ZC Basic Cards 3.7 and readers are OmniKey. Oudoor reader is
Mini Smart. Thousands of the smart cards are being consumed by this
innovative customer. They just keep going and going adding more
customers (smart cards) to their system.
Health
Smart Card for Caribbean - Curacao
Today
country of sunshine Curacao has one of the more advanced Health Smart
Card systems in the world!
THE PROBLEM
Process
initiated by major insurance company and software/service
company ACTS - Curacao. Almex SmartCard Solutions provided all smart
cards and smart card software. Whole process started with Health
Insurance company approaching ACTS and explaining that they have to do
drastic change in way the visits to doctors and claims are handled.
Improvements suppose to prevent waste of time, money and resources,
double payments, speed up claims procedures and preventing abuse of the
system.
THE PLAN
ACTS
and
Almex wrote detailed requirements which was basically
blueprint how system will be used. Project was divided into 3 phases
where second and third phase carried functionality improvements of the
first phase. Cards selected are Zeit Control ZC3.9, readers OmniKey
and Xiring. Several months took for smart card programmers to complete
their job and about twice as much ACTS programmers to create central
data base and user's interface screens. There was also time spent on
testing and fixing small things.
ACTS
decided to use desktop and portable smart card terminals for
medical professionals. They also decided to print cards themselves and
as result of all above 70 thousand smart cards are now being
distributed to practically every person in Curacao. For doctors usage
they decided to replicate French Vitale Smart Health card system so
every doctor's office is equipped with Xi Max, handheld smart card
reader. Almex SmartCard Solutions is distributor for Xiring products
that makes Xi Max device.
THE SMART

ACTS
and Insurance
company are in process of personalizing smart cards so every person in
Curacao will get their own Smart health Card. System we provided and
built is not only business kind of solution that is functional for what
it does, but it also makes great service to Country of Curacao. Every
person involved shall see benefit from having and using smart card

we will have
feedbacks from the users and doctors but so far it looks like that
everybody is looking forward to get and use the Health Smart card
system. Almex SmartCards Solutions is already seeing more inquiries
coming from Caribbean where different organizations are asking about
same or similar solution.
DigiCoins
Canada ePurse Project Launched - Sudbury, Ontario, Canada
THE
PROBLEM
Visa
and Master card
companies own virtually complete consumer spending cards markets,
worldwide. It comes with price and stipulations for both merchants and
consumers.
THE PLAN
Mr.
Claude LePage is first
Canadian that came up with idea to create privately owned consumers
payment system. Adanced solution with smart cards and never seen reward
features was envisioned.
THE SMART
CARD SOLUTION
On
June 30. 2009. DigiCoins Canada launched first Canadian privately owned
smart card based ePurse project!
Project
is starting with
25000 dual interface smart cards and 25000 balance readers. DigiCoins
is now signing up merchants and starts selling smart card packages they
call DigiVault. They hope to cover most of the Sudbury's commercial
locations in next 6 months thus enabling consumers to enjoy full
benefits of the ePurse system.
DigiVault
cards are loaded
with comprehensive gift/loyalty schemes and will enable consumers to
use and get electronic cash with every single purchase they make. There
is no
costs to consumer and merchants shall enjoy increase in traffic and
much lower rates of doing business with DigiCoins system compared to
credit card companies that charge exorbitant fees to merchants and
consumers. Besides that all personal and commercial account management
is done on WEB site in electronic form at no cost to users.
DigiVaults
are being sold
at many locations in Sudbury and will gain popularity as a gift item
that you can use every day at many places. Dual interface JCOP31 (NXP)
smart card is selected as secure, portable media that carries around
electronic cash. It is different from standard credit cards which
require huge infra structure to be able to function. In this case
electonic money is securely stored in the smart chip and acts as a cash
card usually called ePurse. Cards can but doesn't have to be
personalized. Flow of transactions is overseen by unique card number
stored in the chip as well.
Inventor
of the system
envisioned usage of the balance readers (Xiring) to help every
cardholder to check balance of the card and read card serial number at
any time. Serial number of the card is quite important since it allows
free access to DigiCoins WEB site where registration and login
allos card holders to view transactions list. Balance readers are small
keychain style smart card readers with LCD and smart card slot. By
inserting smart card into the balance reader display presents available
balance and CID (Card ID) number.

Almex
SmartCard Solutions

located in Marlborough, Massachusetts, USA. We recently finished
project for them and it is in use now.
THE
PROBLEM
Visiting
doctor's is sure
one of the most unpleasant, time and money wasting experience person
could have. Unfortunately, in most cases visits to medical institutions
can't be avoided.
THE PLAN
As
with all great ideas
their idea is very simple. The fact is nobody likes to see doctors!
Pinnacle Health manager Mr. Paul Brough decided to change at
least
part of that by awarding reward points for
every visit to approved medical facility! Participants in the system
are: doctors (health service providers), patients and Pinnacle health
company. In this equation everybody wins!
THE SMART
CARD SOLUTION
 Doctors and medical facilities
sign up to get recommended and listed by
Pinnacle Health. In turn they get traffic of patients coming to their
doors that normally they would not get. Pinnacle Health
recommending specific medical practitioners to membership that counts
in tens of thousands is something that every doctor would welcome.
By
using smart card issued by Pinnacle Health patients earn valuable
award points with every visit to medical facilities. Points can be
reedemed for merchandise or other benefits provided by Pinnacle Health.
Besides that, patient's smart cards contain valuable ID and medical
records that are encrypted in the smart cards. Visiting approved
medical
facilities users get there with more confidence since medical
practitioners are selected and passed Pinnacle Health scrutiny
before being listed.
Pinnacle
Health company earns money from membership and usage of the
smart cards from medical providers. As system is growing membership
will inflate to significant numbers. Base of satisfied members
represents valuable base of current and future customers that will buy
products and services promoted by Pinnacle Health. Once smart card is
in user's hands there is really no limits to what system can do for
them.
Those
members are getting
value from their smart cards and that is very important! It is not some
kind of nonsense mambership in which member becomes endless number that
comes and disappears because there is nothing to keep him
invoilved.
Smart
cards we selected for
this project were ZC Basic Cards with 8k EEPROM. They were printed at
the moment of production in Germany. Readers are 3121 by OmniKey, also
made in Germany. Software written by our programmers consists of
several modules loaded into central servers, WEB application for sign
up, reporting and updates, encrypted smart card module and doctor's
software loaded into their PCs. Using control (SAM) cards medical
facilities are are to process patients much faster with care, precision
and respect they deserve. Control cards gives them certain authority
needed in smart card system to read and write back to cards. In the end
of each visit doctors awards points as per arrangements already set up
in the system.
Members
are able to log in into www.pinnaclehealth.com
WEB site, check and redeem their points. They can also do other
management of their needs and interact with PInnacle Health.

InsuranceONE
Smart Card Project Launched in Central Maputo - Mozambique
June
2011 started new chapter in operations of Bio-Med (African Royal House)
Health Insurance company. It started with idea coming from
Manager, Mr. Nao Norman Sipula who wanted to introduce new system in
standard insurance company practices.
THE PROBLEM
For longer time customer had impression that they have to do something
drasticaly new to improve operations of their insurance company. Old
system was plagued with fraud coming from members sharing their
coverage with friends. Doctors and medical institutions providing
services usually found way too late that there is no coverage for
certain members or procedures. Insured person would come to render
services with coverage that long expired. There was no mechanism
allowing medical institutions to verify amount of coverage or there
would be discrepancy in claimed services performed, coverage allowed or
amounts allowed for specific procedures. Also administration within
actual insurance company had a huge task in front of them to keep
everything running and up to date with claims coming, approved or
disapproved at later date.
THE PLAN
Being medical doctor himself Mr. Sipula realized that new system has to
accommodate many aspects before being successfuly used. According to
their requirements we created software and smart cards that carry all
important personal and insurance coverage information. Using medical
professional's smart card and patient's card doctor is capable of
verifying patients' card, verify coverage that applies, charge a visit
using proper selection of codes and finally make an electronic claim to
insurance company. All this and much more with few mouse clicks. This
leaves doctor to concentrate on what he/she is there for in the first
place and that is provide a quality medical care.
THE SMART
CARD SOLUTION
As system smart cards we used ZC5.5 and for patient's cards we used
ZC3.32. Readers used are OmniKey 3121 and 3621 with PIN pad. OS in
computers is standard Windows 7. Medical professional's cards are
controlled by expiry date and remotely can be disabled if needed.
Patient's cards also have expiry date, calculated coverage groups,
remote verification and automatic log.
Smart card system reduces a threat of fraud, speeds up all
administrative processes, reduces pollution by eliminating countless
papers circulating around. Cards can last forever and just be
electronically updated when needed. Using InsuranceONE system it is
possible to manipulate with groups of records (members) with mouse
click, get various activity reports, watch coverage, change percentages
of coverage, have special coverage for reading glasses or dental, share
same card between the family (is allowed so) and much more.
Bio-Med plans to expand their system in future and offer same kind of
smart card solution to more patients and insurance companies. By
bringing so many benefits to the table we can see Bio Med
becoming
major player in Mozambique. |
